When the King James translation of the Bible was produced in 1611, nothing was known of geology. James Hutton, the father of geology, wasn’t born until 1726. Anthropology was an unknown science, and the history of the ancient Near East has come to light only since the late 1800s. So the translators of the “Authorized Version” labored in a vacuum of mitigating evidence that would have helped them immensely. The result is that Genesis in the KJV virtually is stuck in the 17th century.
One would think that modern versions would have corrected any discrepancies in Genesis 1-11 imbedded in the KJV by now. Such is not the case. Although some words have been updated, the overall impression Genesis gives in all versions essentially has remained unchanged. Although some Genesis commentaries have paid lip service and acknowledged that certain parallel accounts predate the Genesis narrative, this has not been reflected in modern Bible versions due largely to the fact that not enough evidence had been accumulated to alter a biblical scenario that has become time-honored and ingrained in Christian theology.
Enough documented evidence has been compiled by now to permit the necessary revisions to the original King James Version and bring Genesis 1-11 into the modern era. The RKJV places the historical account entirely within the context of the ancient Near East from approximately 7,000 years ago to 4,000 years ago that encompasses the Genesis 2-11 narrative. There is no deviation here in cosmological or geologic time as commonly understood and incorporated in typical science text books. Likewise, there is no deviation in anthropological terms from what is commonly understood concerning the length of time human beings have lived on planet earth.
Adam is understood as a historical personality, the first of the covenant race, the federal head of mankind, and was introduced by God to usher in a new era of accountability. Adam lived roughly 7,000 years ago in southern Mesopotamia, present-day Iraq.
The Mesopotamian flood in Genesis 6-9 occurred approximately 2900 BC according to many Bible scholars and was judgment on the Adamic race. Even the Bible itself permits survivors. The Genesis 6:4 Nephilim (trans. “giants” in the KJV) survived the flood as they were ancestral to the Anakim (Num. 13:33). Sumerian scribes in several Mesopotamian cities produced a common list of kings who reigned in the pre-flood period before “the flood swept thereover.” In addition they recorded names of kings who ruled during the post-flood period until Sumer was destroyed about 2000 BC. This places the Sumerians living in the region of southern Mesopotamia on both sides of the flood. They suffered collateral damage but survived to rebuild their flood-ravaged cities.
The dispersion in Genesis 10 precedes the Tower of Babel incident described in Genesis 11. At least two languages, Akkadian and Sumerian, were spoken in “Shinar” (Sumer). The writer of Genesis would not have intended to convey that one universal language was spoken throughout the world. Furthermore, after the incident no radical change in the basic language occurred as recovered texts show Semitic nations continued to speak and write in related Semitic dialects.
The starting point of understanding Genesis come from knowing that what was passed down to the children of Israel beginning in Genesis 2 was an abbreviated history of their race, the covenant race, not the whole human race as it has been popularly misinterpreted. This translation effectively puts into the heads of the King James translators what they would have known about earth science and ancient history had they been living in the 21st century.

Genesis 1
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. Genesis 3
1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Genesis 4
1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. 2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. 6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. 8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. 9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? Genesis 6
1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4 There were nephilim[31] in the land[32] in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of the descendants of Adam[33] was great in the land[34], and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made the Adamites[35] on the land[36], and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy the Adamites[37] whom I have created from the face of the land[38]; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 The land[39] also was corrupt before God, and the land[40] was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the land[41], and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the land[42]. 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the land[43] is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the land[44]. 14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. 15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the land[45], to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the land[46] shall die. 18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Genesis 7

Genesis 9

[3]. Hebrew `asah, translated “made” in the KJV. The word for create, bara in Hebrew, is not in the text, and the heavenly bodies were created on Day One when God created heaven and earth. On Day Four they were appointed, commissioned or ordained by God as timekeepers for the sighted creatures that would appear on Day Five and Day Six. An alternative would be to say that God “had made” to indicate this was a completed action that occurred in the past. The King James translators rendered “Cush” as “Ethiopia” due perhaps to the fact that cush in Hebrew means “black,” however, Cush was Noah’s grandson, and the other lands named, Assyria and Havilah, are also named after grandsons. Cush was home to the Cushites or Kassites who initially lived in what is now western Iran, a province still called Khuzistan to this day.

Japhethites generally lost their identity when they headed west after Noah’s sons disbursed.
